Your Marketing Numbers Are Probably Wrong

Broken measurement doesn't announce itself. It just reports a number.

A tracking code sitting on your page and a tracking code firing on every conversion are two different things.

Most teams never check which one they have.

Not bad creative. Not the wrong audience. Broken measurement sitting underneath campaigns that might actually be working, reporting numbers with nothing behind them.

This is the least glamorous problem in marketing, which is exactly why it gets skipped. It doesn't show up in a pitch deck. Nobody gets excited presenting "we confirmed the tracking pixel fires correctly."

But a campaign measured by broken tracking isn't underperforming. It's not being measured at all. It's producing a number that looks like an answer and isn't one.

What has to be true before the rest of it works

Installed is not the same as firing. Installed means the code is on the page. Firing means it registers every conversion, every time. The distance between those two states is where most measurement problems live, and nobody finds it by looking at a dashboard.

Your platforms have to roughly agree. One platform reports 800 conversions. Another reports 60. Same campaign, same month. The math isn't mathing. Something upstream is broken, and every performance conversation you have on top of it is happening on sand.

The audit has to come before the spend. Checking the foundation after a quarter of paid budget is diagnosing the problem the hard way, at the most expensive possible moment to find it.

Someone has to be looking, and know what they're looking at. This is the one that's actually hard. Spotting an 800-to-60 discrepancy takes about four seconds. Knowing it matters, and chasing it instead of reporting whichever number looks better, is a different skill.

Do it early or pay to learn it late

None of this is exciting. All of it is cheaper than the alternative, which is spending a quarter to learn something an afternoon would have told you.

If it's been a while since anyone checked, it's worth an afternoon before the next campaign goes live. We're happy to take a look.
